BERLIN (GERMANY) (ITALPRESS) – The party of ultra-right Alternative fuer Deutschland (AfD), led by Ulrich Siegmund, dominated the regional elections in Saxony-Anhalt, gathering 43.8% of the votes (+23% compared to the previous round), with a huge detachment compared to the CDU (17.2%, collapse of 20%), but missing the absolute majority. Very high turnout at the urns, 77.8%.
At the end of the port, which took place in the night, the AfD – which obtained the best result ever recorded by a party in the German region – was assured that it alone could not rule: it obtained 39 seats, it needed 42. This is because the BSW managed to get into the Regional Parliament of Magdeburg, obtaining 5.3% (and 5 seats).
The outgoing Minister-President Sven Schulze’s CDU underwent a misdemeanor, with more than halved consent. In third place SPD, 9.3%; Verdi 8.9%, and Linke, 8.6%. At the moment it is unclear whether the AfD will be able to convince individual Members of other parliamentary groups to support the election of Siegmund to Minister-President.
Before the vote, the other parties had excluded any coalition with the AfD. Except the BSW, which last night meant to be open to a collaboration with the right. “We said we will talk to all parties. Including the AfD,” said the BSW leader, Thomas Schulze. “The ‘healthy heart’ does not concern us; we will talk to all parties.”.
The federal leader of the AfD, Alice Weidel, said last night that even individual members of the CDU could go to the AfD. It remains to be understood whether it is a concrete possibility or simply a manoeuvre aimed at further destabilizing the party.
Both Weidel and Siegmund stressed that they wanted to “hold the hand” to all parties and want to invite them to a confrontation. The co-leader of the AfD Tino Chrupalla is certain: “Ulrich Siegmund will surely run for the office of Minister-President in the Landtag; this is a firm point”.

“Abbiamo sempre affermato che compito abbiamo: abbiamo ricevuto un incarico di governo che non potrebbe essere più chiaro. È il miglior risultato che un partito abbia mai raggiunto dal 1990 in Sassonia-Anhalt. Dunque, sicuramente questo risultato equivale a un incarico di governo”. Così il leader dell’Afd per la Sassonia-Anhalt, Ulrich Siegmund, in conferenza stampa, commentando il voto di ieri. “Vogliamo restare fedeli a noi stessi, non ci lasceremo piegare e soprattutto non diventeremo come coloro che sono stati purgati ieri in Sassonia-Anhalt. La Cdu è riuscita a scavarsi la fossa perché ha sempre promesso ciò che non ha mantenuto. Anche in Sassonia-Anhalt si è piegata, ha istituito una coalizione che non era prevista dal suo programma in campagna elettorale, una cosa che con me non succederà”, ha aggiunto.

“La sera voglio continuare a potermi guardare allo specchio, voglio continuare a essere fedele ai miei valori, ai nostri contenuti, chiaramente assumendomi la responsabilità politica per il land della Sassonia-Anhalt e per tutta la Nazione. Continueremo a portare avanti i valori che abbiamo sempre professato, tenderemo la mano a tutti coloro che sono disposti a collaborare con noi, che possono essere singoli partiti o singoli deputati, che condivideranno con noi le posizioni che ci hanno fatto ottenere un tale successo. È una responsabilità che abbiamo verso noi stessi, verso il nostro land”, ha concluso Siegmund.
