ROME (ITALPRESS) – “I will not ask for any changes to the statutory and regulatory rules of the organization. I will respect the statute by honoring the rules, as is right. In January, we will start consultation procedures to ensure a turnover of the general secretariat by seeking maximum internal unity.” This was stressed by CISL Secretary General Luigi Sbarra in a lengthy interview with the Catholic newspaper “Avvenire,” in which he confirmed that he will leave the leadership of CISL when he reaches the age of 65 in February 2025, as stipulated in the organization’s statute.
“It is necessary to encourage and ensure renewal, at all levels, valuing the skills, professionalism, enthusiasm and passion of so many Cisl trade unionists. One can serve in a great organization like CISL in other roles as well, serving our members, continuing to share the ideal heritage, values, and the great human, social, and cultural wealth of the organization,” adds the CISL leader, who also talks about his succession. “I think that the current general secretary addition Daniela Fumarola, elected a year ago to this role, has the right profile to lead Cisl for the coming years with responsibility, authority, pragmatism, autonomy from politics, concreteness. Daniela is very good, an extraordinary woman and trade unionist, she has experience, competence, moral and trade union qualities of absolute value and my wish goes in this direction. But of course it will be the General Council that will have to express itself.”
The CISL number one stresses that “she will leave a strongly united and cohesive CISL, respected by all institutional interlocutors and other associations, in great growth in workplaces, private and public, with more than 150,000 more members in the last four years among active workers, capable of making unpopulist and courageous choices, as we have done in recent years. Always consistent with our history as a new, free, contractualist union, autonomous from all party interference, anchored in the values of reformist progressivism, participation, economic democracy, and Europeanism.”
