Schillaci “New pandemic plan will not be faded copy of previous ones”

ROME (ITALPRESS) – “The new strategic plan 2025-29 to cope with possible pandemics represents a clear paradigm shift from the past, not a mere bureaucratic formality or a faded photocopy of previous documents: it will be a concrete operational tool, with adequate funding and clearly defined responsibilities.” So said Health Minister Orazio Schillaci during question time in the Chamber of Deputies in Montecitorio. “The plan pursues five concrete objectives,” Schillaci continued. “To protect public health by reducing the spread and mortality of infections, to ensure effective coordination between institutions, to minimize the impact on essential health services, to protect the health of frontline health workers, and to actively involve citizens with transparent information: these are not just good intentions but well-defined operational activities with clear communication, without alarmism or stigmatization. The plan also establishes a precise scale of roles and responsibility of all institutions, with a clear and effective chain of command in case of emergency. All of this is supported by concrete investments, corresponding to 50 million euros for 2025, 150 million for 2026 and 300 million for 2027,” the minister stressed. “In the past, we have often made mistakes, neglecting the importance of prevention and limiting ourselves to photocopies of hasty or inadequate plans: prevention should not be a slogan, but a concrete commitment not to be sacrificed on the altar of instrumental polemics or ideological visions.
