ODENA (ITALPRESS) – The Carabinieri of the investigative group of Modena have stopped a man, 29 years old, of Italian nationality, seriously suspected of the crime of attempted murder of the missionary priest operating in the parish San Giovanni Evangelista di Modena. On the morning of December 30, 2025, in Via Castelmaraldo, just after 10.00, Don Rodrigo was stabbed with a fendente vibrato on the left side of the neck by the man who, immediately afterward, was suddenly removed, losing his tracks. Two employees of the “Ermes” tractor promptly assisted the religious and immediately called the 118 that intervened quickly by transporting the wounded to the hospital Baggiovara where the same arrived in red code, and immediately subjected to surgery that allowed him to save his life. On the same evening, at the end of the surgery, brilliantly performed by the health of the vascular surgery department of the hospital of Baggiovara, the public ministry personally assumed to sum information in the hospital the offended person who recognized in the pictures, shortly before acquired, the face and the facts of the hairdresser, recounting that he had never known him and never talked to him on the occasion of the pawning; the religious also pointed out that everything had happened in an absolutely sudden and unpredictable way, as confirmed by the images of video surveillance.
The immediate investigations activated by the Carabinieri of the Nucleo Investigativo and the local Compagnia allowed to acquire the images of the city camera installed in via della Pomposa that documented the moments immediately before the stabbing and the subsequent ones. The images portrayed, with a good definition, the inquisition in the moments in which he had followed the religious and those in which, immediately after the siding, he had given himself escape. Through the meticulous acquisition of all the other images of video surveillance cameras, it was established that the stop had pawned the offended person for at least twenty minutes, without ever speaking with the same. Further investigations showed that the pawn had originated on the SETA bus 6, as confirmed by the images of the cameras installed on the bus. Through the analysis of the frames, the bus stop was identified where the inquisition was boarded. On the basis of this the Carabinieri identified the commercial exercises frequented by the same and its probable residence. The staging activities, uninterruptedly performed by the Carabinieri during the night between 31 December and the morning of 1 January, allowed to identify with certainty the investigation, whose features were perfectly consistent with the images that portrayed him, shortly before and immediately after, the attempted murder.
On the occasion of the local and personal search arranged and performed personally by the public prosecutor, assisted by the Carabinieri, it was found and seized, on the other hand, on the basis of the indications provided by the same inquisition, the serramanic knife from the latter used to perform the attempted murder. This knife had been hidden in a wall of uninhabited property. On the occasion of the search, all clothing and footwear worn by the investigation were also found and seized at the time of the crime. At the end of the search, the Prosecutor proceeded to the urgent interrogation of the investigating officer in a firm state. Through further insights it was established that the stop had been curated for some years at a mental health center of the surrounding area.
