ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The decree establishing a financing programme for the strengthening of sustainable mobility in large urban areas has been signed by the Mase and all ministers. The measure provides for a total allocation of 500 million euros by the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security and is addressed to the Municipalities capital of Province with population greater than 50 thousand inhabitants and to the Metropolitan Cities located in the areas affected by the European litigation on air quality. The Programme will finance measures to reduce emissions and improve the quality of urban life, including: the strengthening of Mobility Management, the strengthening of local public transport and collective mobility, shared and calling, the support to sustainable urban logistics, incentives and actions in support of demand for sustainable mobility, as well as measures for the regulation and management of urban mobility.
The objective is to focus resources in areas with greater traffic density and a higher demand for mobility, so as to speed up the recovery of air quality and reduce the environmental impact of the transport sector. The Programme adopts an integrated approach, allowing municipalities to intervene in a coordinated manner on multiple areas and to use ANCI’s technical support, in order to maximize the effectiveness of the measures implemented. “With this decree we provide significant resources to help cities most exposed to air pollution to change step – says the Minister of Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto. Investing on sustainable mobility means improving air quality, protecting citizens’ health and making urban centres more viable and modern. It is a concrete measure that combines environment, development and quality of life.”.
