Sinner is the new Prince of Monaco and takes back the number one of the world: Alcaraz defeated in two sets

MONTE CARLO (MONACO) (ITALPRESS) – Jannik Sinner wins the Masters 1000 of Montecarlo 2026. The South Tyrolean beats Carlos Alcaraz, with the score of 7-6 (5) 6-3, in two hours and 15 minutes of play, in the last act of the tournament staged on the Red Land of the Principality of Monaco and conquered the 27th title of his career. Eighth title 1000 for the blue – the fourth consecutive after Paris indoor, Indian Wells and Miami – which also takes the top of the Atp ranking.

After the semi-final elimination of the Australian Open and the surprise ko with Mensik in Doha, the 24-year-old San Candido manages to win Indian Wells, Miami and Montecarlo in the same season. The only one who managed it since 1990 was Novak Djokovic in 2015. It is the second title on the ground for Sinner, after the Atp 250 of Umag 2022, which centered the first Big Title on the land line, which in 2025 had seen it yield to Alcaraz in the final both to the International of Italy and to Roland Garros.

There is no defense of the title Alcaraz, which will return to the field next week in the Atp 500 in Barcelona. At rest, instead, in the next days the blue.

LE DICHIARAZIONI

“I don’t know how to comment this week. We arrived here to accumulate as many matches as possible on the land, especially in view of the next big tournaments. Today the level was very high, especially for the difficult playing conditions, because of the wind that continued to change.” These are the words of Jannik Sinner, in the interview in the field, after the success on Carlos Alcaraz in the final of the Masters 1000 of Montecarlo of 2026. “Back number one is important, but the ranking is secondary now. I’m glad I won an important tournament on the red earth. In the second set I tried to stay there mentally and maintain the right attitude. This trophy means a lot to me,” Sinner added. “Congratulations to Alcaraz and its team for the great results achieved in recent months. Meeting him in the tournament finals is always special. I thank my team for pushing me to the limit in the last few weeks. I’m trying to figure out how to play on this surface and we’ll keep insisting. I thank all the audience, playing here is in a dream and I felt like in Italy”, concluded Sinner.

“It’s impressive what Sinner is doing. Winning the Sunshine Double and Montecarlo is really difficult: I am happy to see him win titles in front of his family. It wasn’t the final I wanted, but I enjoyed every single day here in Monte Carlo. It is one of the most beautiful tournaments we play and I am pleased to have arrived until the final. Thanks to all the fans who filled the stands, I hope they had fun this week.” These are the words of Carlos Alcaraz, during the award ceremony, at the end of the Masters 1000 final in Montecarlo, who saw triumph Jannik Sinner with the score of 7-6 (5) 6-3.
