NEW YORK (USA) (ITALPRESS) – A snowfall that could beat records hit the North East of the United States and New York is among the most hit cities. The city this morning woke up dressed in white, suspended between emergency and wonder. In Brooklyn, in the Park Slope district, the storm covered roads, sidewalks and parks in a few hours, forcing people to slow down their paces, without really stopping.
The schools were closed and will be closed tomorrow, but the neighborhood still filled with life: fathers who drag the sleds with children, laughter in the fresh snow, small moments of normality in the middle of the torment. There is also who, despite the wind and the stinging cold, can not avoid leaving to walk the dog, facing frozen sidewalks and ever higher heaps.
The Subway, the backbone of the city, continues to work, ensuring essential shifts. A proof of resilience for a metropolis that cannot afford to stop. Very different the situation in the skies: the airports of JFK, LaGuardia and Newark (in the near New Jersey) are closed from last night, with hundreds of canceled flights and inconveniences that could last until Wednesday.
The young mayor Mamdani banned the use of private means to facilitate emergency operations and clearing of snow. Now the attention is all about him: this will be his first true test of leadership in front of a city accustomed to extreme challenges, but also to demand immediate efficiency. New York waits, under the snow, without stopping living.
