Sogin, in the nuclear power station of Latina operation to dismantle the boilers

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – In the nuclear power station of Latina Sogin has installed at 45 meters height the lifting crane that will allow to move the metal parts produced from the next operations of dismantling of the six generators of vapours (boilers).

The boilers are steel structures of red colour, 24 meters high, with a diameter of 5.7 meters, of the weight of 600 tons each, placed outside the reactor building, which during the exercise transferred the heat from carbon dioxide to water, producing the steam necessary to activate the turbines and to produce electricity.

The project envisaged the use of a high-precision lifting system, called jack-up, which uses hydraulic jacks that, operated in a synchronized way, allowed to automontate the crane gradually leading it to the top. The operation provided the use of 240 “cassettes” positioned vertically starting from the 4 bases where the martinetti were placed.

The lifting was maneuvered by specialized personnel, who worked in continuous shifts h24. A technological choice, adopted internationally in the most complex industrial sites, which testifies to Sogin’s desire to combine innovation, structural precision and operational efficiency to carry out this work in maximum safety, having to operate in a narrow space between the control building and the reactor building of the power plant.

The project now plans to end the isolation of the six steam generators from the outside environment with the placement of special panels and metal profiles. At the end, the cutting operations of each boiler will begin in nine cylindrical parts, progressively proceeding from top to bottom. The cylindrical portions will be brought to the ground through the use of the lifting crane and transferred to the material treatment station, already realized, where they will be treated and decontaminated with the use of high-tech robotic systems.
