South Korea’s President Yoon arrested

ROME (ITALPRESS) – South Korea’s deposed president Yoon Suk-Yeol was arrested in the Italian night for the December 3 coup attempt. The 64-year-old former national chief prosecutor is the first sitting president to end up in handcuffs in South Korea’s history.
In a video message released before his arrest, Yoon stated that “the rule of law in South Korea has completely collapsed” and the investigation against him “is illegal.” He then explained that he decided not to oppose the arrest to avoid “a disgusting bloodbath.”
Before managing to make the arrest, anti-corruption investigators and police officers had an hours-long standoff with security forces at the gate of the presidential compound, but there was no confrontation.
A motorcade of cars escorted the People’s Power Party leader to the IOC offices for questioning. However, investigators later disclosed that the head of state “is exercising his right not to answer.”
Yoon had for weeks refused to appear for questioning and earlier this month resisted an initial attempt to arrest him.
