“Sport and Peace”, in the Senate celebrated the athletes of the Olympics of Milan-Cortina

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “Sport and peace”. A combination often recalled in this period, even a few hours before Pope Leo XIV, becomes the protagonist of the event organized by Giusy Versace, a former Paralympic and Senator athlete, in the Senate headquarters at Palazzo Giustiniani. A further opportunity to “give thanks for what you did at the Milan Cortina Games”, the words of the senator of Noi Moderati and athletic athlete.

“Sport and peace are a winning combination. At a time like what we are living – he said – I think it is necessary to keep the spotlight on the values of sport, the Olympic spirit and what the Olympic Games and Paralympics of Milan-Cortina have represented, recording records from many points of view. For this reason, I strongly wanted today in the Senate the blue athletes protagonists of the last Games. In the presence of the President of the Senate The Russian, Minister Abodi and the President of the 7th Senate Marti Commission, we gave them a bronze coin of the Senate, an important recognition not only to celebrate their successes in the heart of the Italian Parliament, but also to give life to a moment of reflection on sport as an instrument of inclusion and healthy confrontation, able to overcome many barriers”.

“Even art, as well as sport, has a universal language. And that is why I enthusiastically welcomed the master Gianni Moramarco, author of a unique work, a painting on canvas, dedicated to Paralympic athletes and who was donated to the Senate. The Master, accompanied by his editor and curator Eva Bellini, also wanted to donate the numbered and autographed serigraphs of the work, to all the Authorities present including the heads of the military sports groups and state bodies. For this attention, for nothing discounted, I thank him heart, as I thank all the guests and the speakers intervened, in presence or in video connection – he concluded Versace — the President LaRussia, the Minister for Sport and the Young Abodi, the Minister for Disability Locatelli, Senator Impact Marti, president of the Commission Culture and Sport of the Senate, Mr Mollicone, president of the Commission Culture of the Chamber of Deputations.

As mentioned for the occasion, the delegation of Olympic and Paralympic athletes present was awarded the medal of the Senate. The artist Gianni Moramarco, on the other hand, gave Palazzo Madama a work dedicated to the Paralympic world, which depicts a parathlete with the mask of Joker. A serigraph of the same work, on the other hand, was given to the leaders of the sports groups present.

“Athletes need applause – the comment of the President of the Senate, Ignazio LaRussia -. You warmed our hearts, not only with your victories, but also with the simple participation, which was an an anthem to resist the difficulties of life”.

According to the Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi, Giusy Versace “is a very passionate person. We will try to put in the best conditions who have not yet begun great sports, but deserves a great opportunity to affirm and a possibility to give a sense to life”.

On the title of the event is back the president of the Coni, Luciano Buonfiglio: “Let us clarify the universal value of sport as a tool for dialogue among peoples, capable of overcoming any barrier – he said in a video message –. The recent Milan Cortina Games have represented a concrete testimony of a moment in which the world has found itself recognizing the values of healthy competition and mutual understanding. In this context the value of the Olympic Truce is inserted. Today this message takes on an even deeper meaning: in a time marked by conflicts, sport exhorts to build bridges”.
