Sportcity Day 2026 presented to the Senate, on September 20 sports in 200 cities

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Two hundred cities involved and over 700 thousand participants expected to transform squares, parks and public spaces into open-air gyms. The seventh edition of Sportcity Day was presented to the Senate of the Republic, the national day promoted by the Sportcity Foundation and scheduled on Sunday, September 20. From 10 to sunset, citizens of all ages will be able to approach many sports and motor disciplines free of charge, with the support of qualified technicians, territorial associations and athletes. The goal is to make physical activity an accessible and daily experience, enhancing its role in prevention, psychophysical well-being and quality of life.

“The Sportcity Day has become a fixed event for the culture of movement. Doing sports is good and makes citizens better. It is only the beginning of what awaits us during the year, with a series of initiatives and activities that make sport happen every day of the year”, the words of Fabio Pagliara, President of Fondazione Sportcity. Born in 2021 with the accession of 17 Municipalities, Sportcity Day has grown to become one of the main Italian events dedicated to widespread sport and social regeneration of urban spaces. The initiative promotes the model of the “Republic of the Movement”, founded on health, inclusion, sociality and contrast to sedentity, involving local bodies, associations, operators and volunteers.

“We are all co-protagonists of this project, with the aim of increasing and ensuring the physical well-being of people. We want to fill our cities of activity and promote the culture of movement. Opes is made available with its membership cards and reality on the territories to ensure that the value of sport is accessible to all,” adds Juri Morico, national president of Opes. Within the event will also return “Nature and Movement”, the project developed with the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security to bring sports activities to national parks, protected areas and marine protected areas. A path designed to combine movement, knowledge of the territories and protection of biodiversity.

“Today’s day is important to us sports lovers. The penetration of sport in society passes through these initiatives. Nature and movement means sport activities in protected areas, which are a central context in biodiversity and we are doing everything to consider them not only more cathedrals of the desert, but places to do activities”, says Claudio Barbaro, State Secretary to the Ministry of the Environment. Sportcity Day can count on the support of the Permanent Observatory on Sport, Anci and institutions such as Coni, Sport and Health and the Italian Paralympic Committee. The day of 20 September aims to reaffirm the right to movement and the value of sport as an instrument of participation, collective well-being and active citizenship.
