Stabbed in the street in Messina, 21-year-old girl dies

MESSINA (ITALPRESS) – A 21-year-old girl from Palermo died after being stabbed in the throat in front of the entrance to the “Celeste” stadium in Messina. The woman had been rushed, already in very serious condition, to the city’s Polyclinic, which is a few hundred meters from Viale Gazzi where the incident occurred.

According to initial reconstructions thanks to some testimonies, it was a peer who stabbed the young woman who screamed in the street before she bled to death, and a witness reportedly tried to chase the attacker in vain. Both police and Carabinieri were on the scene, who fenced off the area, awaiting formal findings and the arrival of the magistrate on duty. The victim of the incident is an intern at G. Martino University Polyclinic, the hospital where attempts to save her were in vain.

Il cordoglio del sindaco Basile

“I am speechless. Today Messina was shaken by an immense tragedy: a young life, that of Sara Campanella, was brutally cut short. The violence of this act leaves us incredulous and deeply saddened.” This was written on social media by the mayor of Messina, Federico Basile, who added, “I want to express all my closeness to Sara’s family and friends. In this moment of unbearable pain, know that the city of Messina is with you. We condemn with all force this act of violence and trust that justice can take its course.”
