NAPLES (ITALPRESS) – Arrested 30-year-old man for attempted murder, in Vico Equense, Naples province. One look too many and an unwelcome approach allegedly triggered the suspect’s reaction. Carabinieri last night responded to a stabbing in the central Piazza Umberto I. Shortly before, Municipal Police officers had arrived on the scene and detained a 30-year-old man. The injured man, a 20-year-old of Egyptian origin but resident of Vico Equense, was rushed to the hospital in Castellammare di Stabia.
According to a reconstruction by the Carabinieri, the 30-year-old local man, already known to law enforcement, allegedly attacked the 20-year-old with the handle of an umbrella, striking him repeatedly in the face and head until he broke the umbrella. During the scuffle he then allegedly stabbed the young man in the abdomen with a switchblade. Two of his friends would intervene in the 20-year-old’s defense and, in particular, one of them in an attempt to disarm the attacker would injure his right hand.
At the origin of the altercation would be the victim’s attempted approach to the girlfriend of the attacker, who would later intervene. The weapon was not found. Seized was the umbrella likely used during the attack and now broken. The victim is still hospitalized. The arrestee, charged with attempted murder, was transferred to jail.
