Stellantis-CRF protagonist at “Towards the Sustainable Vehicle Era”

TORINO (ITALPRESS) – From 17 to 19 November the Politecnico di Torino hosted the third edition of the “Towards the Sustainable Vehicle Era”, an international event dedicated to the challenges and opportunities of mobility of the future. The initiative opened on 17 November with the exhibition of prototypes of innovative vehicles at the Lingotto Pista 500, offering participants a preview of the latest solutions in the field of intelligent and sustainable mobility. Stellantis-CRF presented a Fiat 500e demonstrator with an advanced system of indirect heat pump, designed to ensure maximum comfort in the cabin and optimize the thermal management of the car, improving its energy efficiency. On 18 November, the Politecnico di Torino welcomed experts and stakeholders for a workshop dedicated to mobility prospects and electrification technologies. The meeting encouraged the sharing of results, co-creation and technological transfer, promoting dialogue between academic and industry, in a multidisciplinary context.

For the occasion, Marco Tonetti (Tech Research South Europe Coordinator) presented the study “Joint Research for a Sustainable Electrified Mobility Future”, illustrating the joint projects between Stellantis-CRF and the Polytechnic, aimed at developing key solutions such as advanced batteries, high efficiency and optimized power converters and electric motors without permanent magnets with rare earths. The intervention highlighted the strategic role of collaboration between industry and universities in the transition to more efficient and sustainable mobility.

The event “Towards the Sustainable Vehicle Era” ended on 19 November with an event dedicated to the results of MOST – National Center for Sustainable Mobility. Within the Spoke 2 “Sustainable Road Vehicle” of MOST, Stellantis-CRF has confirmed a leading role in applied research and technological development, proposing three innovative projects, presented in the intervention of Patrizio Turco (Tech Research) “Main Stellantis-CRF’s outcomes & Vehicle overview” and exhibited in the Proto Exhibition.
The first concerns the advanced thermal system with compact heat pump and natural refrigerant (already shown in the inaugural day), designed to ensure efficient heat management and to effectively cool the vehicle components, reducing environmental impact and anticipating future regulations.

The second introduces a predictive thermal management integrated with the navigator, which uses the path set to optimize the overall energy consumption of the vehicle, thanks to a sophisticated control based on the Model Predictive Control technique.

The third concerns a new battery pack equipped with solid state contactors and wireless management of the Battery Management System, which allows to reduce the overall weight and allows the reuse of batteries in second life applications, such as storage systems for renewable energies.

These innovations confirm Stellantis-CRF’s commitment to developing advanced technologies for decarbonization and transition to sustainable and digital mobility. The projects presented meet the challenges of the global market and offer solutions that combine efficiency, safety and environmental respect.
