BRUSSELS (BELGIUM) (ITALPRESS) – Students from the Università degli studi Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria were protagonists of a significant educational experience at the European Parliament, where they met with the highest officials of the European Commission on the opportunities that Europe offers to young people.
The initiative was promoted by Hon. Giusi Princi, MEP FI-EPP. The experience in Brussels offered young people from Calabria the opportunity to learn firsthand about the workings of European institutions and to explore the concrete possibilities that Europe makes available to the younger generation.
“It is a great honor and a deep joy for me to have welcomed these young people as my special guests,” says Giusi Princi. “This visit was an opportunity,” she continues, “to build an ever stronger bond between young people and the European institutions. Above all, it is a way for young people to feel that they are an active part of this great community that is Europe, closely understanding the workings of the House of European Democracy, a place where the policies that shape their present and future are built. These young people are the lifeblood of a beautiful country, Italy, and of a glorious land, Calabria and all of the South. It is with them and for them that we work every day to create opportunities and strengthen the link with Europe by making them and the territories central to their growth, for which their skills must become an engine of development,” added Giusi Princi.
“During the visit,” he continued, “the student delegation had the opportunity to meet Vanessa Debiais-Sainton, a member of the cabinet of the Vice President of the European Commission, Roxana Minzatu. Key issues for the future of young Europeans emerged at the center of the discussion: the ERASMUS+ program, a symbol of the opportunities for international mobility for study and training; the pooling of skills at the European level as an added value in personal and professional training; and university educational alliances that foster collaboration between universities in different member states. Of particular note, then, was the testimony of Annacarola Coda, Policy Officer at the Directorate General for Partnerships for Parliamentary Democracy of the European Parliament, who shared with the young people her first-hand experience, that is, how, thanks to the opportunities offered by European programs, she studied, trained herself, now sits in the Commission and passes on to the young people the example of someone who has made it thanks to Europe and to having believed in herself and in her own abilities.”
“The experience lived in Brussels by the students,” Giusi Princi continued, “allowed them to become ambassadors of European values and opportunities. I hope that this path can be only the beginning of a journey together to build a better future for our Calabria, for Italy and for Europe. At such a delicate time, when dangerous anti-European drifts are spreading, calling our young people back to the founding values of the European project becomes essential. Italy, as a founding country of the European Union, has always played a central role in the construction of this common home. Alcide De Gasperi, along with the other founding fathers, envisioned a Europe united in diversity, infusing into the treaties those principles of solidarity and cooperation that are still our beacon today. It is precisely in these difficult times,” Princi stressed, “that we must remind young people of the importance of that visionary project, so that they can understand that Europe is not just a distant institution, but a common heritage built with sacrifice and foresight. Our young people from Calabria, returning home, brought with them not only the knowledge of the concrete opportunities offered by the Union, but also a renewed awareness of the importance of being active and participating European citizens.”
The young people’s experience in Brussels was recounted by Giusi Princi on social media in a short video that recorded more than 15 thousand views in just a few hours, a testament to the need for young people to feel close to Europe and its values.
