ROME (ITALPRESS) – “The first concern of Italy and the government is to protect the security of the 300 fellow citizens living in Syria. At the moment there are no concerns. Some have managed to leave the country, some are in Jordan, some are in Lebanon. We are ready to do whatever is necessary with national and UN initiatives: all Italians know that the embassy is ready to organize the evacuation of all our fellow citizens. We have requests and we will make sure that all those who want to leave Syria can do so in the utmost safety. The embassy is mobilized to protect all our compatriots.” So said Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani on the sidelines of the coordination meeting on Syria held at the Farnesina. “Italy,” he added, “supports the need for a political solution in Syria. We call for ensuring the security of all minorities starting with the Christian minority. We trust and support the ongoing action and confrontation in Doha. We hope that an agreement for a political solution can emerge, to which we are strongly committed and encourage all parties to pursue this goal. Another humanitarian and migration crisis must be averted,” Tajani concluded.
