Taekwondo, Vito Dell’Aquila returns number one of the rankings: world top and Olympic in -58 kg

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Vito Dell’Aquila returns to the roof of the world taekwondo. Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion wins first place both in the world ranking and in the Olympic ranking of category -58 kg, continuing his race towards the Olympic Games in Los Angeles 2028. The blue of Mesagne, fresh of the victory at the “Polish Open” in the -63 kg, is then resumed the summit. After the success of the Grand Prix in Rome, in front of the home audience, and the bronze conquered in Muju, in the house of the taekwondo, Dell’Aquila confirmed its positive moment by imposing itself also in Warsaw, where he competed in a superior category. In the taekwondo ranking system, in fact, participation in competitions in a category of weight other than the Olympic one can nevertheless contribute to the classification to five circles when the category is adjacent to the reference one. In the case of Dell’Aquila, the results obtained in the -63 kg therefore contribute to the path towards LA28 of the category -58 kg.

“I’m very pleased to be back in the ranking first place. I lost my record last month and I’m glad I got it back thanks to a series of great results. The bronze of Muju gave continuity to the victory of Rome and then came the success at the Polish Open. I want to maintain this position because I feel I deserve it and because I feel I can be the best. At the same time, however, I want to continue to have fun,” said Dell’Aquila. The blue will not take part in the Grand Prix in Paris, due to the calculation mechanisms introduced by the new ranking system, and already looks at the next major goal of the season: the Grand Prix Final 2026, scheduled to Astana from 27 to 29 November. The top sixteen athletes will compete in the kazaka capital, with up to 100 ranking points. A central event in the international route of Dell’Aquila and in the race towards Los Angeles 2028.
