Tajani “Not even a magistrate should be politicized”

ROME (ITALPRESS) – “The statements about Giorgia Meloni, in the magistrates’ email, are unacceptable.” Vice-Premier Antonio Tajani says this, in an interview with Corriere della Sera. “There is a small group, a current called Magistratura democratica, historically linked to the then Communist Party, which first attacked Silvio Berlusconi and now attacks Meloni. They complain about General Vannacci, but they do the same thing,” explains the foreign minister, who adds, “They say a general should not do politics. I am the son of an army general. He wouldn’t even tell us who he was voting for. But neither should a magistrate be politicized. Just as there are no right-wing carabinieri and left-wing carabinieri. “It is not the magistrates who should decide which countries are safe. The judiciary cannot invade the other two,” stressed the deputy prime minister, who added, “I respect the judgments, but magistrates cannot do as they wish. The European Court talked about parts of the territory being unsafe, but there must have been a lack of control, as is the case with the Houthis. Otherwise, Italy is not safe either. In some areas where there are mafia or camorra, is Italy safe? With this principle nothing is anymore, not even the U.S., which has the death penalty in some states.”
