Tajani on duties “A trade war benefits no one”

ROME (ITALPRESS) – “Today there is a delegation I sent to Washington to talk with U.S. officials about the tariff situation, we are working in tune with the European Commission, which has exclusive competence over trade agreements. As the Italian government we have a project in our head to try to make sure that our exports can continue to move forward.” Vice Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said this on the sidelines of a meeting at the Ravenna Chamber of Commerce.

“Several meetings have already been held with the business community, I believe that in the meantime we need to strengthen our presence in other markets: Mexico, Gulf countries, Indonesia, Japan, Turkey, and at the same time find ways to dialogue with the United States, aiming at new solutions such as increasing our imports and investments in America,” Tajani continued.

“Ours are all high quality products, and those who want an Italian product will buy it even if it costs more. The high quality of the Italian product,” he added, “is a guarantee that allows us to look at the issue of duties in a way that is not extremely worried. For the minister, “certainly it is not a positive affair, it is not convenient for anyone to put new duties or a trade war. I am dealing with what can be done to protect our companies, we have made progress, we have started the reform of the Foreign Ministry that will serve to strengthen the policy of the growth of our companies on the international stage.”
