BRUSSELS (BELGIUM) (ITALPRESS) – “We have made a picture of the general situation, I have reiterated Italy’s commitment to maintaining faith in the agreements with NATO. Our military will remain, even if in a reduced form, in the NATO bases and also of the anti-Daesh coalition. The number of soldiers has been reduced in front of the attacks, but we will remain there to maintain the commitment we have made. A 360-degree analysis of the situation and the desire of Italy to be protagonist within NATO”. This was said by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, at a press point at the edge of the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels.
“We are part of the EU, we are driving the Aspides mission that I think must be reinforced to ensure the marine traffic in the Red Sea and Suez. We will continue to work in that direction, also willing to strengthen the Aspides mission and the Atalanta mission, but I do not think that they are missions that can be extended to the Strait of Hormuz, also because they are different missions. I think it is right to continue working in the Red Sea to ensure the marine traffic and regarding Hormuz I believe that the line of diplomacy must prevail,” he added.
“POLEMICA INUTILE SU INCONTRO TRA CIRIELLI E AMBASCIATORE”
“It is a useless controversy because Deputy Minister Cirielli received an accredited ambassador to the Italian Republic. We have not broken diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation. The meeting served to reaffirm our position, the same as I reiterated five minutes ago in Rutte. The meeting did not take place in secret, it took place in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, so all in the light of the sun. But then it’s a lot of weeks ago. Having diplomatic relations with many countries, if an ambassador asks to speak, he speaks. It is not that our attitude to Russia changes because the ambassador of the Russian Federation came to the Farnesina. The position is that, Cirielli reiterated it, so there is nothing to be shocked. We are in favor of sanctions, we are not going to change positions on the purchase of Russian oil. So it seems to me that our position is always consistent. So – the minister concluded – we always have, with the countries with which we have diplomatic relations, always reiterated our official position, which is to condemn the invasion. We are on the part of Ukraine and are not on the part of the Russian Federation.
