Tajani “We want to transform ceasefire into peace”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “We want to transform the ceasefire and the first phase of the Trump plan into peace.” As part of the Med9 summit in Slovenia, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, during one of the working sessions dedicated to the Middle East, said this in the presence of the King of Jordan Abdullah II. Tajani thanked him for his important action in favour of peace in the region. Then he recalled the next visit to Italy of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas (7 November) and the constant Italian support for the solution of two Peoples two States as a long-term horizon for stability in the Middle East.

The owner of the Farnesina recalled the Italian commitment along the three directors of reconstruction, stabilisation and formation of the future Palestinian ruling class. On the first front, Tajani recalled today the presence of an Italian technical mission, with all the articulations of the State, of reconnaissance in Jerusalem, Ramallah and then in Jordan to verify the priority areas of intervention.

For the stabilization of the Strip, the minister confirmed the Italian readiness to evaluate a strengthening of the presence of the Carabinieri to the Rafah and Jericho Pass, underlining how Italy is ready to take its part in the security front in the international frames and Onu that will be defined. On the subject of training, the owner of the Farnesina has valued the recovery of university corridors, announcing the arrival in Italy this Thursday of other university students, accompanied by the Minister of the University and Research Anna Maria Bernini.

The minister thanked Jordan and Egypt, with which Italy worked closely in its action in the field for Gaza. Italy will contribute to the organization of the next conference for reconstruction in Cairo, involving its private sector, in the wake of the Rome Conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine last July. Tajani has confirmed that Italy is, and will remain, in the first row in humanitarian action, that it is intensifying (especially in the food and health sector) and supports in this context also the humanitarian maritime corridor activated last year from Cyprus.
