Teenager defends actions in Paderno Dugnano tragedy as legal proceedings continue

A 17-year-old, who confessed to the Paderno Dugnano massacre, characterized his act as a form of “emancipation” during a second interrogation by juvenile prosecutors. The young man, who is accused of killing his father, mother, and 12-year-old brother, detailed his feelings of “discomfort” and desire for freedom from his family, although he does not directly blame them for his actions. His next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday at 10:30 AM, where he will be questioned by a judge.

During today’s two-hour interrogation at the Beccaria juvenile prison, the teenager reiterated his confusion and remorse. He expressed that he did not intend to commit murder but had been grappling with dark thoughts for some time. His defense attorney, Amedeo Rizza, revealed that the boy is struggling to understand why he acted as he did, despite having had thoughts of death previously. The prosecutor has requested that the arrest be validated and that the teenager remain in custody for multiple aggravated murders, including premeditation.

The interrogation aimed to clarify details about the massacre, which occurred around 1:55 AM, including the sequence of events and the teenager’s movements within the home. The inquiry also focused on the hours following the birthday celebrations for his father. No new evidence has emerged, but the defense hopes to challenge the premeditation charge, arguing that the teen’s actions were impulsive rather than premeditated.

The teenager, who killed his family over the weekend in Paderno Dugnano, reportedly told those meeting with him at the Beccaria center that he cannot explain his actions. He described his state of mind as one of existential angst, but insisted he never thought it would lead him to murder. His attorney stated that the young man is beginning to grasp the gravity of his actions, though he remains unable to provide a clear rationale.

The juvenile prosecutor, Sabrina Ditaranto, and prosecutor Elisa Salatino will present their request for the arrest validation and custody at a preliminary hearing, expected to occur between tomorrow and the day after. The teenager will be required to explain his actions in front of the judge, and his attorney noted that he is now more coherent compared to his initial interrogation.

As the legal process unfolds, the teenager awaits the appointment of a legal guardian and the results of pending autopsies. The case continues to develop as investigators and legal authorities seek to fully understand the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
