Tennis, Australian Open 2026: 11 blues in the main board

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – There will be 11 blues in tabellones at the Australian Open, first Slam of the 2026 season at the start next 18 January on the concrete fields of Melbourne-Park. In the entry-list published, there are 9 tennis players and 2 Italian tennis players.

In the singular male, with the bi-champion in charge Jannik Sinner there are Lorenzo Musetti, Flavio Cobolli, Luciano Darderi, Lorenzo Sonego, Matteo Berrettini, Matteo Arnaldi, Mattia Bellucci and Luca Nardi. In the female singular are at the street Jasmine Paolini and Elisabetta Cocciaretto.

On Australian soil, 99 of the top 100 players and 98 of the world’s top 100 players will go down. The number one Carlos Alcaraz leads the male entry-list, while the world tennis queen Aryna Sabalenka, finalist also in 2025, is at the top of the female one. The 22-year-old Spanish never went beyond the quarterfinals at Melbourne Park and will have to look first at Jannik Sinner, winner in 2024 and 2025, who aims to become the second tennis player in the Open era, after Novak Djokovic, to win three consecutive titles of singular at the Australian Open.

Djokovic, 10 times champion in Melbourne, enters as number 4 of the world after reaching all four Slam tournament semifinals in 2025, becoming the oldest player in the Open era to have achieved this result in only one season.

The most important absence in the male bill is that of number 15 of the world, the Danish Holger Rune, struggling with rehabilitation after the break of the Achilles tendon. Sabalenka will have to see her, as well as the defending champion Madison Keys, with number 2 of the world Iga Swiatek and the defending champion of Roland Garros Coco Gauff. Eight wild cards and 16 qualified will complete the board of 128 players both in the male and female singular. Qualifications will take place at Melbourne Park from 12 to 15 January as part of the Opening Week.
