ROMA (ITALPRESS) – In the field it was over to the additional ones with the victory of Senegal. In the sports courts, Morocco was awarded the African Cup by the Caf Appeal Committee, the African Football Confederation. The game, the longest final in history, but it’s not over yet. It will go…to rigori since the Fsf, the Senegalese Federcalcio, announced that it will present recourse to the Lausanne Tas “against an unjust, unacceptable and unprecedented decision that discredits African football. In order to defend its rights and interests of Senegalese football, the Federation will make use as soon as possible to the Arbitral Tribunal of Sport in Lausanne”.
What about Morocco? Frmf issued a statement, underlining that the Appeal Commission did nothing but apply Articles 82 and 84 of the Competition Regulation. It also filters the position of the Federation, that the legal actions were not undertaken with the intention to “put into question the sports performance of the teams participating in the tournament, but only to request the application of the regulation. The Federation reaffirms its commitment to compliance with the rules, the clarity of the competitive framework and the stability of African competitions.”.
A decision that, of course, triggered considerable controversy and reactions. A source of the Senegalese Football Federation declared to ‘L’Équipe’: “We are outraged. On 29 March there will be a meeting of the Caf Executive Committee (African Football Confederation); it will be the Third World War”.
Claude Le Roy, ct of the Senegalese national between 1990 and 1992, expressed his indignation for the decision of Caf. “I never imagined, even for a second, that the Caf could go so far in the road of absurdity”, his words reported by L’Equipe with attacks also to the president of African football, Patrice Motseppe, called “a vasssal by Gianni Infantino who wanted to give this Cup to Morocco from the beginning”.
Other hard attacks on number 1 of the Fifa and a feeling: “I think it’s not over yet, I think Senegal will receive what it deserves at the end of this story. But this is all pathetic, it destroys the image of African football.”.
Many reactions also from Senegalese players (“Give three goals to those piagnucoloni”, Pathé Ciss’ post that refers to success for 3-0 at the Moroccan table) for a decision that assigns the title to Morocco, but there is still another page of this bad story to write and to do so will be the Lausanne Tas.
