The athenaeus of Verona lights up the tree that generates books for a celebration of reading and sport

VERONA (ITALPRESS) – The University of Verona, the Olympic city, hosted the Albert Book 2025, the luminous sculpture that celebrates reading as a collective and sustainable gesture. The installation was inaugurated on Tuesday, December 16 at 11 am, continuing the journey that from 2 December has already touched Monza, Rome and Pieve di Soligo, bringing with it 2026 volumes, symbols of the Olympic values of knowledge, sharing and participation. Promoted by Fondazione Arnoldo and Alberto Mondadori, with the contribution of Regione Lombardia, Centre for the Book and Reading of the Ministry of Culture and Municipality of Pieve di Soligo, in collaboration with AIE – Associazione Italiana Editori and the design studio Finemateria and thanks to the support of the sponsors UBroker and Elcograf-Gruppo Pozzoni, AlberoLibro 2025 is officially part of the program of the Olympic Cultural.

L’AlberoLibro in Verona hosts 100 thematic books on sports selected by Paolo Maggioni, journalist and writer, conductor of the Sunday Sportiva Rai and creator of the Library of Sport Gianni Mura. The volumes tell stories of champions, Olympic adventures and collective challenges, focusing on sports values that guide the project of Cultural Olympiad. The volumes, all new and purchased in proximity libraries to support the local editorial chain and promote a widespread and sustainable culture, will then be donated to the University Library System that will catalog them and make them available for the loan.

The symbolic heart of the project is the initiative Libri Olimpici that previews the distribution of 2026 books to the schools of Lombardy and Veneto, in collaboration with the Centre for the Book and Reading of the Ministry of Culture, as a sign of approach to the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Milan Cortina 2026. The Olympics of Culture will be so strongly supported by books, vehicles of knowledge, deepening and participation.

The initiative is part of the Cultural Olympiad of Milan Cortina 2026, the multidisciplinary, plural and widespread program that will animate Italy to promote the Olympic values through culture, heritage and sport, in view of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games that Italy will host respectively from 6 to 22 February and from 6 to 15 March 2026.

At the inauguration of the Zanotto Polo, the director Giovanni De Manzoni, president of the Olympic Games Commission of Athens Federico Schena, the coordinator of the Library System Daniela Brunelli and the director of the Fondazione Mondadori Paolo Verri. There were also the president of the municipal council Stefano Vallani, the president of the student council Irene Lupi and the president of Esu Verona Claudio Valente.

The inauguration of the AlbertoLibro is the first event of a series of initiatives that fall within the project of University UniVerso the 2026 Olympic Games, which in the coming months will offer a series of meetings dedicated to the Olympics, in an ideal path to accompaniment to the opening ceremony that will be held on February 6 in Milan, while Verona will host the closing ceremony on February 22.
