With the beginning of July we have definitely entered the height of summer with many Comites members traveling, often to Italy. Nevertheless, there are significant activities to highlight.
On Wednesday, July 10, at the Consulate General in New York, the Comites and other representatives of the Italian community were invited to a meeting with Senate President Ignazio La Russa, who is on a mission to the United States for the Assembly of Presidents of the Parliaments of NATO members. The President showed that he is fully aware of the role of the committees and their issues. In his speech he dwelt on the value of Italian immigration in New York, not only the educated or those linked to Italian companies, but also the humbler ones. After the speech there was an opportunity for some individual banter.
At the Scoglitti Society, animated by Francesco Caramagna, also a member of Comites, met on Sunday, July 14, at the Elmwood Park, New Jersey, headquarters for a Mass in honor of St. Francis of Paola and a luncheon attended by several dozen people. An opportunity was taken to remember the departed and to wish each other a good summer.
Finally, The Comites has released its first newsletter, for which thanks are due to Councilor Ornella Fado and journalist Rosa Coppola. If you haven’t received it and don’t want to miss the news, write to info@comitesny.org. We are also on Facebook, Instagram, and now YouTube!
Before closing, I leave an important notice: finally, the Consulate in New York is also equipped to issue the Electronic Identity Card. For the necessary information and instructions, the link to follow is: Carta d’Identità Elettronica (C.I.E.) – Consulate General of Italy in New York (esteri.it).
Everyone is wished last good weeks of summer, however you are able to spend them. We trust that the resumption of fall activities will find us ready and fit.
