The book market began to grow in 2026

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – 2026 begins with encouraging growth data for the Italian publishing market. In the first three months of the year, in fact, sales of books in the main commercial channels – chain and independent libraries, online store, including Amazon, and large distribution – marked an increase of +3.4% as an economic value and +2.5% of copies, for a total of 347.8 million euros and 23.2 million copies sold. The increase results in 11.3 million euros and 569 thousand copies more than the same period of the previous year.

An increase in the purchases of books due to the first effects of the library bonus, foreseen in the Decree Culture wanted by this Ministry, which has allocated 60 million euros for the purchase of books, also in digital format, by the libraries open to the public of the State, the territorial public authorities and private institutions not for profit purposes in particular placed in the peripheral areas, in the internal areas and in those at greater risk of drought.

“These data – commented by the Minister of Culture Alessandro Giuli – confirm the success of a measure able to revitalize the industrial sector closer to our cultural identity and the imprint that, under the Olivetti Plan, we want to give. Helping libraries, especially in peripheral places, means contributing to the social ransom of the territories.”.
