The Constitution of Azerbaijan is 30 years old: “With Italy a strategic relationship”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Azerbaijan is “a young card that is now 30 years old. Despite being a recent text, it is one of the pillars that allowed the country to cross economic and geopolitical transformations becoming a reference point for the construction of institutions. For us Italians the relationship with Azerbaijan has become increasingly important, especially since we have created the Tap gas pipeline with which we can have some energy independence.” So Nazario Pagano, president of the Constitutional Affairs Committee of the Chamber, at the conference “The 30th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan” which saw the presence, among others, of Rashad Aslanov, ambassador in Italy of the Republic of Azerbaijan; Sandro Staiano, president of the Cespam Scientific Committee – University of Naples Federico II; Marco Scurria, president of the Group of Friendship – Italian-Azerbaigian Parliamentary Union.

“With Italy there are bilateral relations in a very strong expansion and there is the common will to strengthen the strategic partnership between our two countries involving politics, culture, energy, education and interparliamentary cooperation,” said Pagano.

“The Italian Chamber looks carefully at these processes and challenges that unite our countries are many. A delicate moment like what the European Union is experiencing – said Pagano – must be seen as an opportunity to play an autonomous role always of the natural framework in the transatlantic relationship. Celebrating the age of 30 means recognizing the value of legal stability, the rule of law, dialogue as a means of peace and collaboration. It is a country that is evolving with great speed and great ability to approach the Western world and is demonstrating to be a reliable partner for all of Europe.”.

Ambassador Aslanov recalled that the Charter “means so much for the constitution of each country. Azerbaijan conquered its independence in 1991 after the Soviet period, from there it began to trace the way to democracy and independence and subsequently a commission was created to adopt its Constitution which is a pillar for each country. The Constitution, adopted in 1995, strengthened our independence and territorial sovereignty, gave impetus to defending citizens’ rights, gave a clear view of the future.”.

Scurria then recalled the importance of the relations between Italy and Azerbaijan underlining how “30 years of Constitution are not few because not” a Charter “is not only the set of norms and laws but represents the soul and identity of a state, what it wants to be and represent within and outside its borders. I have known the soul of this people and of this state thanks to a visit made a short time ago – he tells -, but also thanks to continuous requests of political and institutional character and I could see how in that country there are no problems between those who profess or do not profess any faith, there are no problems of relationships between men and women, between ethnic groups and different traditions. I believe that both Europe and the whole West need to deepen and know better Azerbaijan and Italy make available to be ambassador in the world to make it known,” he concluded.
