The first time of Pogacar at Milan-Sanremo: he falls, recovers and wins in the fly. His edition n°117 of Classicissima

SANREMO (ITALPRESS) – The world champion Tadej Pogacar has won the 117th edition of Milan-Sanremo, the first Classical Monument of the 298-kilometer season with departure from Pavia and arrival in the city of flowers, in the traditional finish line of Via Roma.

The 27-year-old Slovenian outclass of the Uae Team Emirates-XRG, fell after Imperia about 33 kilometers from the conclusion and immediately returned into a group, surpasses in a two-way flight the British Tom Pidcock (Pinarello-Q36.5) and takes over the gold at the Belgian Mathieu Van der Poel (Alpecin-Premier Tech), triumphant in 2023 and 2025. Third place for another Belgian, Wout Van Aert (Visma-Lease a Bike), three blues in the top 10: sixth Andrea Vendrame (Team Jayco AlUla), ninth Matteo Trentin (Tudor) and tenth Edward Zambanini (Bahrain Victorious).

For Pogacar, who in career boasts four Tour de France, a Giro d’Italia. Two iridescent and one European, three Liege-Bastogne-Liegi, five Giri di Lombardia, two Flanders’ Giri, four Bianche Roads, an Amstel Gold Race and two Freccia Vallone, this is its first time at the Classicissima di Primavera and its 11th ‘monument’ (the only lacks the ‘heat’ of Paris-Roubaix). Appointment now on Easter Sunday, 5 April, with the Tour of Flanders.

“When I fell for a second, I thought it was over. I am happy, I was looking forward to winning this Sanremo, I have so many emotions in my head. I didn’t have much experience in sprints at two, I really congratulate Tom Pidcock, I knew it would be hard because he is very fast.” He told the microphones of Rai Sport the world champion Tadej Pogacar, winner of Milan-Sanremo 2026. “I realized I won? No, I’m still gonna need a few more moments,” he joked about the Slovenian Uae Team Uae Team Emirates-XRG.
