CATANIA (ITALPRESS) – This morning the Auditorium of the Children’s Department of the Hospitaller Presidio “Garibaldi-Nesima” of Catania hosted a moment of discussion and reflection dedicated to the health of women: the educational event ECM “The health of women with gynecological neoplasia: care beyond therapy”, promoted by the Children’s Department and the Oncological Department of ARNAS Garibaldi. Since the first hours of the day, the auditorium has animated with the presence of numerous health professionals from different disciplines, gathered with a common goal: to deepen a model of care that does not limit itself to the effectiveness of the treatments, but that can take charge of the person in his entirety. After the greetings of Mauro Sapienza, health director of the Arnas Garibaldi, to open the works were Giuseppe Ettore, director of the Infantile Materno Department, and Roberto Bordonaro, director of the Oncological Department, who welcomed all participants, underlining the strategic value of training initiatives of this type: “In investing in training and multidisciplinary comparison means investing in the quality of assistance. Meetings like this strengthen a vision of health that puts the person at the centre, promoting increasingly integrated, appropriate and close to the real needs of patients,” said Ettore. To follow, Bordonaro’s intervention recalled the deepest sense of the initiative, highlighting how oncological care must necessarily go beyond the clinical aspect: “The care of women with gynecological neoplasia cannot stop at therapy. It is essential to consider the human, psychological and social dimension of the disease, building shared paths and a network capable of accompanying the patient at every stage of his journey.” During the morning, working sessions gave voice to different experiences, skills and views. The right to oncological oblivion, the emerging needs of patients, the central role of caregiver, the quality of life and the physical and psychological changes that accompany the disease. Ample space has also been reserved for support therapies, nursing and the value of the hospital-territory network, key elements to ensure continuity and care. Particularly significant was the moment dedicated to the voice of patients and associations, which helped to enrich the debate, recalling how listening and sharing represent fundamental tools in the path of care. The scientific guide of the event was entrusted to Giusi Blanco, UOC Oncology ARNAS Garibaldi, and to Mirella Sapienza, UOC Ginecology and Ostetricia ARNAS Garibaldi, who reaffirmed the importance of a multidisciplinary approach, integrated and increasingly focused on women.
