The Navy Blue enters the Mazda color range and debuts with the new CX-5

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Mazda consolidates the success of its global best-selling with the new Mazda CX-5, which evolves the Kodo design language and introduces a new and exclusive exterior color, the Navy Blue. Sober but with a strong personality, this new shade of blue enhances the refined and elegant character of the CX-5 as a versatile SUV, an expression of an authentic Japanese soul, designed to adapt with style to every way of life.

For the new Mazda CX-5 is available a palette of eight colors for the body, including the new Navy Blue, introduced for the first time in the Mazda range. Although the brand is often associated with red, the blue color has played a significant role in Mazda’s history for decades: from R360 Coupe to iconic models such as Familia and MX-5. After over 150 different shades of blue developed over the years, the Navy Blue fits into this tradition as a color designed to be timeless, emotional and global, able to adapt to different markets and lifestyles.

“The design of the new CX-5 evolves immediately recognizable, with a more secure and versatile expression. The Navy Blue enhances Kodo surfaces in a natural way, strengthening its presence with a refined tone and suitable for everyday use”, explains Jo Stenuit, European Design Director of Mazda.

The new coloring was developed through a collaborative co-creation process that involved the various Mazda teams of design, development and manufacturing engineering. To accurately translate the vision of designers into a ready-made finish for production, digital development methods and advanced modeling systems have been used.

“In the development of new colors for the exterior we follow a co-creation approach with our colleagues in Japan. This means sharing the proposals both in digital and physical format, constantly comparing us through reciprocal feedback and gradually shrinking the selection of shades that are best suited to the models of the coming years. This is the process that led the development of the Navy Blue for the CX-5, and we are already applying it to future generations of colours,” explains Alena Gersonde, Senior Designer Colors and Materials at the European Mazda Research and Development Centre.

The goal was to create a new reference for blue in the Mazda range, able to overcome the popular Deep Crystal Blue, balancing different mica particles: a selected for brightness and the other optimized for color intensity. The result is a high-definition finish, with a marked contrast and bright appearance under the sunlight, but at the same time deep and elegant with the sky covered or at night.

The new Mazda CX-5 retains the iconic silhouette that has defined its identity since its debut in 2012, while evolving the design language Kodo – Soul of Motion. Immediately recognizable, the last generation expresses an even more secure and mature presence, with the new Navy Blue that enhances the sculpted surfaces and the refined proportions of the body.

Developed according to the design concept “Wearable Gear”, the new CX-5 is designed to fit in a natural way to a wide variety of lifestyles. As a functional and carefully designed garment, it combines style, comfort and practicality, resulting in its ease both in urban context and in outdoor activities. This same philosophy also led the development of the Navy Blue, conceived as a versatile color and capable of generating a strong emotional resonance.

The evolution of the design of the Mazda CX-5 highlights the design and visual stability of the vehicle, thanks to a muscular wheelbase, a higher front and a wider carriageway. The new full LED light signature with linear design, along with the elegant Mazda lettering to the rear, contributes to a more decisive and contemporary visual impact. Inside, the new Mazda CX-5 interprets the Japanese aesthetic principle of Ma, giving life to a clean, spacious and functional cabin, designed to ensure comfort and harmony both in everyday family use and long-distance travel.
