ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Kia celebrates in Courmayeur its 30 years in Italy and takes the opportunity to present, between a splash of snow and the other, the new EV5. It is a model that fits into the C-SUV segment and represents a central point of the electrification roadmap called “Plan S”, aimed at the diffusion of battery vehicles. The project uses the global E-GMP modular platform of Hyundai Motor Group, characterized by an architecture with 400 V technology.
The pillars of Kia EV5 are spacious, comfortable and safe. It features a square silhouette with a prominent back mount. The outer dimensions are 4,610 mm long, a width of 1.875 mm and a height of 1.675 mm, with a pitch of 2.750 mm. The ground height is 167 mm.
The front and back cover the “Star Map” light signature. As for the rims, 18 or 19 inch options are available for the basic and 20 inch version for the Gt version. The aerodynamics is managed through stretched lines and handles of the doors to thread of the body shop.
Painting with eight metallic colors, one “matte” and 4 “two-tone”. The cabin is designed for versatility of use. Convenient the “relaxation” seats, the rear ones lower to form a flat load surface of the length of two meters. The capacity of the trunk is 566 liters extendable to 1.650 liters with the folded seats, to which an additional front compartment of 44.4 liters is added.
The choice of coating materials includes recycled PET for seats and carpets, while for upholstery of seats, console and headrest is used biofoam. Onboard comfort is guaranteed by the tri-zone air conditioning, the new position of the wireless charger, solutions to reduce aerodynamic smoothies and improved sound insulation. The technology is centered on the Connected Car Navigation Cockpit system, consisting of a Panoramic Wide Display that combines a 12.3′′′′ instrument panel, a 12.3′′ infotainment screen and a 5.3′′′ climate display.
The system supports Over-the-Air updates and integrates Digital Key 2.0. The basic version of the EV5 is equipped with a 160 kW (217 hp) electric motor and a pair of 295 Nm. The traction is front. The battery pack has a capacity of 81.4 kWh and allows a range of 530 km. The continuous charging system allows you to switch from 10% to 80% of the energy in 30 minutes.
The vehicle includes Vehicle-to-Load technology, which delivers up to 3.6 kW power to power external devices. The EV5’s dynamics, which we have driven in extreme conditions between the snowy roads of the Aosta Valley, is supported by electronic traction and braking management systems that transmit to the driver safety and reliability. The i-Pedal 3.0 system allows the vehicle to run and slow down through the use of the sole pedal of the accelerator particularly useful downhill on frozen roads.
The Smart Regeneration System Plus regulates the strength of the regenerative braking based on navigation data and the detection of interlocks or changes in speed limits. The ADAS system suite includes, among others, the Highway Driving Assist 2, which assists in the maintenance of the safety distance, the centre of the carriageway and the change of lane. Safety is also integrated with seven airbags and structural reinforcements of the chassis. The Intelligent Speed Limit Assist system adapts speed to road signals and resets autovelox anxiety. For parking manoeuvres, the EV5 has the Remote Smart Parking Assist 2.0, which can also be used from the outside of the vehicle, and the front, side and rear collision prevention system. The prices range from 44,750 euros of the Air to 53,500 euros of the Gt-line launch edition.
