The second generation of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe arrives.

ROME (ITALPRESS) – The second generation of the Grand Coupe is arriving at BMW dealerships. Born in 2020, it comes completely renewed in the exterior, interior and with a wide range of engines. The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe was born in the Leipzig plants and is as environmentally sustainable as the factory that produces it, powered by solar and wind energy. It is 20 mm longer, touching 4,546 mm, while the wheelbase measures 2,670 mm.

It is 1,800 mm wider and 15 mm taller, reaching 1,445 mm. The front is expressive, the silhoutte elongated and the rear powerful. Vertical bars, and diagonal inside, the new radiator grille, large air intake, lowered appearance, very close to the road, with redesigned front bumper. The headlamp assembly includes vertical LED elements for daytime running lights and turn signals. The hood is long, the overhangs short and the roofline flowing. The taillights are flat and the exhaust tailpipes integrated invisibly.

The interior is leather-free and with great use of recycled material. Upholstery is sustainable, with elegant illuminated metal trim depending on driving selection. New is the head up display and BMW Curved Display as well as the gear selector. M Sport seats are in red and black two-tone Veganza. Minimal physical buttons because almost all controls are touch. The standard sport steering wheel, in the M Sport package with red strap and colored stitching, has paddles for manual gear shifting. For improved safety, an additional airbag is installed between the driver and passenger.

Powertrains include gasoline and 4-cylinder diesels. Gasoline BMW 216, 170-hp BMW 220, BMW 223 xDrive, and BMW M235 xDrive. Diesels are 150-hp BMW 218d and 163-hp BMW 200d. Transmissions are electrified with 48-volt mild hybrid technology, and the transmission is a 7-speed dual-clutch Steptronic. Driver assistance systems are advanced level 2, plus the Parking Assistant Professional allows the driver to control parking maneuvers from the outside with the smartphone and the My BMW app.

The top model we tested on the Apulian roads among masserias and tributes to Domenico Modugno is the BMW M235 xDrive Gran Coupe, which is at the top of the range with excellent performance. The 4-cylinder engine develops 300 hp and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. The wheels are 18″ or 19″ light alloy, 4 the obvious exhaust pipes, powerful rumble by selecting the Sport driving mode. Improved, with all-wheel drive, agility and cornering dynamics, precise sport steering. Straight-line driving is very stable even on roughly paved roads.

The M adaptive suspension has actually also improved comfort with mechanically controlled, frequency-selective variable dampers. In fact, pressure peaks within the dampers are attenuated with additional valves acting on the traction side. Prices for gasoline models range from 38,500 euros for the BMW 216 to 60,700 euros for the M235 xDrive. For diesel power, prices range from 43,000 euros for the 218d to 44,500 euros for the 220d.
