THE SMIT COFFEE – 22/12/2025 – Gasperini’s demands

Good morning, happy Monday, and happy Smith coffee to everyone.
While we wait for tonight’s Supercoppa final between Napoli and Bologna in Riyadh, this Monday column is dedicated to Gian Piero Gasperini’s Roma — still attractive to watch, but unable to truly dance when it matters most.

Against Juventus in Turin, Roma suffered yet another defeat in a big match. It had already happened against Napoli, Inter, and Milan. Now Juventus can be added to the list.

Whenever the level rises, Roma struggle. Gasperini’s team is one of extremes: they rarely draw. They either win or lose — and when the stakes are high, they almost always lose, regardless of how well they play. The performance is often convincing, the result much less so.

“We are strong,” Gasperini said after the match, “but not all the players are at Roma’s level.” His comment was not aimed only at Ferguson, but also at several others — particularly players brought in through a transfer market that has never fully satisfied the coach. And it still doesn’t. That is why Gasperini is once again looking to January for reinforcements that could finally allow his Roma to compete consistently for the very top spots in the standings.

Gasperini deserves it, for the outstanding work he is doing and for the clear identity he has given this team. And Roma — along with its fans — deserve the chance to finally take that long-awaited step forward.
