ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The ITF has elected world champions 2025 Jannik Sinner in the singular male and the pair composed by Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini in the double female. A further certification of a record season for Italian tennis. The ITF world champions are chosen considering the results achieved throughout the entire season with particular emphasis on the performance in the Grand Slam tournaments, in the Davis Cup and in the Billie Jean King Cup (the Olympics also count performance at the Games).

Sinner, the world’s first single male champion for two years in a row after Novak Djokovic (2011-2015), during the season became the first Italian champion in Wimbledon in singular, won the Australian Open and the Atp Finals for the second year in a row. At 23 and 163 days he is the youngest to win at least twice the Australian Open since Jim Courier, champion in 1992 and 1993, and the eleventh player in the Open era to triumph for two years in a row in the tournament. Thanks to these results it is today the Italian with multiple Slam titles in the unique history of tennis, male and female.

In the Slams he arrived in the final at the Roland Garros, the longest in the history of the tournament, and at the Us Open, he lost always against Carlos Alcaraz. He also won the Masters 1000 in Paris, for the first time in his career, and the Atp 500 in Beijing and Vienna. It totalled 66 weeks from number 1 in the world.

Errani and Paolini, who began to play together after the Roland Garros of 2023, in 2025 they triumphed in Paris, won three more Wta 1000, including the International BNL of Italy, and dragged the blue national to the second consecutive triumph in Billie Jean King Cup. Roland Garros Sara and Jasmine celebrated the first Slam trophy.

Tennis is increasingly at the centre of Italian attention. This shows the ranking of the most visited entries on Wikipedia in Italian in 2025. For the second consecutive year, there is Jannik Sinner. This is what emerges from the data shared by Wikimedia Italia, the association for free knowledge that technically manages the online collaborative encyclopedia, as well as the Wikimedia and OpenStreetMap projects.

The voice dedicated to the first Italian number 1 of the world was visited 3,877,370 times until November 2025, more than those on Pope Francis (3.144,224 visits) and the current Pontiff, Pope Leo XIV (3,025,143 visits), tennis enthusiast who received Jannik Sinner on the occasion of the BNL International of Italy.

At age 24, in 2025 Sinner became the third and youngest player able to reach at least the final in all four Slams and Atp Finals in a year since 1970, when the end-season tournament was introduced to the world’s best. Before him they had only succeeded Roger Federer, in 2006 and 2007 (at 25 and 26 years) and Novak Djokovic in 2015 and 2023 (at 28 and 36 years)
