Thousands in Giaveno for final farewell to Matilde Lorenzi

And then friends, teammates and many ordinary people, all gathered in a single embrace to give a final salute to Matilde Lorenzi, the 19-year-old skier from the Centro Sportivo Esercito, who passed away last Tuesday following a tragic accident during a training session on the slopes of Val Senales. Above the coffin a pillow of white, red and green flowers, the tricolor, Matilde’s alpine hat, and on the ground, near the coffin, a ski, brought to the church by her sister. Lucrezia herself, in tears, said during the ceremony, “You leave us an immense, devastating void, I’ve been missing air since Monday. I am sure that you will be the one to guide me in my choices. I am immensely grateful to have had you as a sister. Have a safe descent Matildina.” There was also great emotion when the floor was passed to her parents, Adolfo and Elena, who thanked everyone present and recalled the safety project that started just today in memory of the missing young athlete. “Matilde with her passing you called us to do hard work, which will have to be done by everyone, together.
