Tottenham, it is official: Roberto De Zerbi is the new coach

LONDRA (INGHILTERRA) (ITALPRESS) – In the end Tottenham convinced him: on April 12 on the occasion of the race with Sunderland there will be Roberto De Zerbi on the bench of Spurs. He was the officer of the 46-year-old technician from Brescia, who took the place of Tudor who in turn replaced the exonerate Thomas Frank on 14 February.

The London company speaks of “long-term” agreement, without specifying the duration, but the English media report that De Zerbi would sign a five-year agreement, without exit clause in case of non-salvation: the Tottenham, seven days from the end, is in fact the last quarter, with only one length of advantage on the recession zone.

“I am happy to join this fantastic club, one of the biggest and most prestigious in the world – the first words of De Zerbi – In all talks with the management, the ambition for the future was clear: building a team capable of great results, playing a football that thrills and inspires our fans. I’m here because I believe in this ambition and signed a long-term contract to give everything to myself and realize it. Our short-term priority is the Premier League ranking, which will be our only goal until the final whistle of the last game of the season. I look forward to coming to the field and working with these players to reach it.”.

De Zerbi, who left Marseille last February, had long been approached to the Spurs but seemed to want to wait June to see if the Tottenham had stayed in the Premier. It will now be up to him to ensure that the Spurs avoid the descent into Championship.

“Roberto was our number one goal for the summer and we are very happy to have managed to bring him here now – says Dr. Johan Lange – He is one of the most creative and innovative coaches in world football and brings with him a great experience at the highest levels, including the Premier League”.

De Zerbi, in fact, led from September 2022 to May 2024 Brighton, conquering with the Seagulls a historic qualification in the Europa League. In addition to Marseille – with which he had finished the Ligue 1 2024-25 in second place with the pass for the Champions – he coached the Shakhtar Donetsk, with which he won his first and so far only trophy, the Ukrainian Super Cup.

With the appointment of De Zerbi up to 9 seasonal changes on the bench in Premier: began the Nottingham Forest (Postecoglu for Espirito Santo), then West Ham (Holy Spirit for Potter), again Nottingham Forest (Dyche for Postecoglu), Wolverhampton (Edwards for Pereira), Chelsea (Rosenior for Maresca), Manchester United (Carrick for Amorim.
