Tragedy of Crans-Montana, Tajani in the Senate Chamber “An open wound, just that Italy is a civil part”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “The tragedy of Crans-Montana is a wound for the entire national community.” So the Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, in the communications on the tragic events in Switzerland in the Senate Hall. “For this reason I immediately went to the place, to be close to families and bring the closeness of the government and all institutions. A few times in my entire life and in my long public activity I felt and shared such a heartfelt pain, such a deep anguish,” he recalls. “It was really a blow to the heart that left a mark, because each of us could have a son or a niece there: they are things that must not happen, that cannot happen. More than as Minister of the Republic, as representative of our country at that time abroad, I felt like father and grandfather and I silently poured some tears because what I saw was a tremendous scene.”.

“I want to thank all the political forces, which I have updated on the evolution of the situation, and the Parliament for the spirit of cohesion with which they have followed the developments of this tragedy. Precisely because it was a national tragedy that struck our country, I thought I would call all leaders of the majority political forces and opposition to inform them of what happened and I must say that I had only words of great humanity – he added. This is the demonstration that when it comes to tightening around our compatriots also abroad, there are no party differences. At that moment I felt I really represented all of Italy.”.

“Our country’s response was immediate: we have been able to guarantee timely care to the injured and psychological support to families, demonstrating once again the efficiency of our emergency management system. From the very first moments we were ready for the transfer of the wounded to the Italian hospitals. Already in a few hours three patients were transferred to the Niguarda hospital in Milan.” Moreover, “that morning some family asked me if they could have psychologists to assist them: after about ten hours there was already a team of psychologists who had arrived from Trento, Genoa and the Aosta Valley to assist our compatriots, there was also a spontaneous reactivity that goes well beyond normal professional duty,” he recalls. “A delicate work was also done for the return to Italy of the psalms and young victims,” adds Tajani. “It is at these times that institutions show their true value.”.

“It is not up to me to make judgments here, but I want to assure you that the Government is following from the beginning, with the utmost attention, the evolution of the investigations, both in Switzerland and in Italy. We have asked and will continue to demand that every responsibility be ascertained and that it is made full clarity on what has happened, even in the light of the behaviors of negligence that are evident in the eyes of all. It is therefore right that Italy asks to form a civil part of the process, because this is a wound that has been infert not to some family, but to all Italian families,” he emphasizes.

One must make “full light on what happened during the night of San Silvestro. We owe it to the victims, their families and all the Italian citizens who look to the institutions with confidence and hope. It is a commitment on which we will vigil every day so that justice is done, not only for a proper sense of justice, but also to ensure that similar tragedies never have to repeat themselves again.”.

“We address a thought of hope to the 14 wounded fellow countrymen: We will guarantee them all possible care, we will be at their side, we will not abandon them and we will not turn off the spotlight. Unfortunately, it will be a long journey”, but “it will be done everything possible so that these children, thanks to the work of our doctors and nurses, can soon return to their lives, alongside their affections”, he concludes.
