WASHINGTON (UNITED STATES) (ITALPRESS) – Just hours after being sworn in to begin his new term, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump held a rally at the Capital One Arena in Washington to thank his supporters for their support throughout the campaign. Trump was greeted by a cheering crowd. The tycoon walked down the steps next to fans as Lee Greenwood performed a live version of the song “God Bless the USA,” which has become something of a campaign anthem for the tycoon. “We’re going to make our country greater than ever, and I’m thrilled to be back at the helm of America,” Trump said. “A new era of American prosperity, dignity and pride is about to begin to take us back from a failed and corrupt political system. We will stop the invasion of our borders and reclaim our wealth. One day in fifty years I want the young people of now to be able to say Donald Trump did a good job.” On stage at Capital One Arena, the president-elect also praised Republican leaders in Congress, citing House and Senate Presidents Mike Johnson and John Thune, both of whom he described as “great leaders.”
Despite the rain and temperatures well below freezing, the mogul’s supporters, with umbrellas and raincoats, formed a mile-long line before occupying the more than 20,000 seats at Capital One Arena. Doors were scheduled to open at 11 a.m., but as early as 7 a.m. thousands were lined up to attend the “Make America Great Again Victory Rally.” “Today it is important to be here because Trump is back and we have the opportunity to be the first witnesses of history for a memorable event,” said one supporter while standing in line in the rain. Of the same opinion was a supporter who described the tycoon as a person “blessed by the lord” for surviving two attacks on him, “I believe that everyone’s history is already written and Trump’s destiny is to make our country great again.” Many supporters present at the rally also said that one of the primary reasons they voted for Trump related to the performance of the economy: “In a difficult time like this we need a leader who can solve domestic policy issues, especially the inflation emergency, which has reached very high peaks in our country in the last four years,” says one supporter. “We need a person who can once again carry the name of the United States high in the world.
Trump’s planned rally at the Capital One Arena actually anticipates the swearing-in ceremony, which, due to cold temperatures, will take place in the rotunda of the Capitol building in Washington and not outside as originally planned. Immediately after taking office, Trump is expected to be intent on immediately initiating a series of executive orders with the intent of quickly enacting the policy changes he promised during his long campaign. During his lengthy speech, Trump again reiterated his willingness to quickly pardon those charged for the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol, referred to as “hostages.” The tycoon’s campaign had already announced in recent weeks that it was considering pardons and commutations on a case-by-case basis, but from the outset Trump has never excluded anyone, including those convicted of brutally assaulting and injuring police officers present that day.
