WASHINGTON (UNITED STATES) (ITALPRESS) – The Women’s History Month event was then followed by a press conference in which President Trump announced the imposition of 25 percent tariffs on all cars not manufactured in the United States. “This is the beginning of the liberation of America,” the White House leader said, “We are taking back the money that was taken away from us by other countries. Tax deductions will be provided for U.S. citizens who buy American cars, Trump added, announcing that duties on imported cars will go into effect “as of April 2.”
According to the president, the imposition of new tariffs on cars will “lead to the construction of numerous plants, particularly car factories.” The tariffs on cars will go into effect starting April 2 and according to Trump’s announcement will be permanent for the rest of his term. Responding to a question from the press Trump also stated that he had not confronted Tesla owner Elon Musk about the tariffs on cars. Trump emphasized how important it is that Congress pass a law so that interest on cars can be deducted from taxes if the car is made in America: “I think people will be impressed,” he said, “We’re going to be very fair, we’re going to be very kind, actually. We have not been treated well by other countries, and I think people will be pleasantly surprised, but it will make our country very rich, because we are the piggy bank that everybody steals from, and they have been doing it for many years, for decades, and we will not let it happen again. We will have very strong vigilance to enforce tariffs on U.S.-made cars.”
According to Trump’s disclosures, the 25 percent tariff will apply to vehicles such as sedans, SUVs, crossovers, minivans, vans and light trucks, as well as major components of automobiles such as engines, transmissions, powertrain components and electric components, with procedures to expand tariffs on additional components. Officials in the Oval Office at the time of the announcement included Peter Navarro, Karoline Leavitt, House Speaker Mike Johnson, Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.
