WASHINGTON (UNITED STATES) (ITALPRESS) – U.S. President Donald Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte had a long discussion in the Oval Office. “We will discuss what is going on between Ukraine and Russia,” Trump said, “I want the war to stop.
Rutte also said he was pleased with the deal Trump is trying to get: “We will also discuss defense production, I would really like to congratulate you on that.”
Trump also reiterated that because of his actions NATO “has become stronger. “We are getting reports that things are going well in Russia,” Trump said. “Very serious discussions with Putin and others. We know where we are with Ukraine and I hope Russia will do the right thing.”
Responding to a press question about conversations regarding the Russia-Ukraine agreement, Trump said he would like to “see a ceasefire from Russia.” The tycoon also expressed a willingness to have a bilateral with Russian President Vladimir Putin: “I would love to meet and talk to him, but we need to get this done quickly.”
During the meeting Trump was also asked about the European Union and tariffs, “We are not allowed to sell cars there,” Trump said, “We don’t sell cars to Europe, the European Union is very bad, they are suing Google, they are suing Facebook. Tariffs are very important.”
Trump also made known to reporters his intention not to back down on the tariffs he is imposing on Canada, “We have been robbed for years, we will not bend.” According to Trump, the duties will have an initial economic impact, but then things will change: “There will be some disruption. But it won’t last long.”
