Tunisia, Saied toward reappointment as president

ROME (ITALPRESS) – Tunisia’s outgoing president, Kais Saied, is given as the winner of the latest presidential election according to early exit polls with more than 89 percent of the vote. Indicators of the presidential election held in Tunisia yesterday showed that candidate Saied was ahead of his rivals, the head of the Popular Movement, Zuhair Al-Maghzawi, and jailed businessman, Al-Ayachi Zamal, and obtained a majority of the voters’ votes. Counting operations began immediately after the polls closed under the supervision of employees of the Independent High Electoral Authority and local and international observers, with preliminary results expected to begin being published this evening.The name of the candidate who received the most votes will be announced tomorrow by the Independent High Electoral Commission. Meanwhile, estimated vote indicators announced at some polling stations after the completion of the vote count indicated a significant advantage for President Saied and his ability to win the votes of the majority of voters. The head of the Electoral Commission, Farouk Bouaskar, said at a press conference that 2 million 704 thousand 155 voters inside and outside Tunisia participated in the vote, with an initial turnout rate of 27.7 percent, adding that the electoral process went smoothly and without any complications or interruptions that constituted an electoral crime. President Saied (66) ran in the presidential race with Popular Movement leader Zouhair El Maghazaoui (59) and Ayachi Zamal, a 47-year-old businessman and engineer who is in jail on charges of “falsifying” voter recommendations.
