Ukraine, Meloni “Italy with US and EU works for lasting peace”

ROME (ITALPRESS) – Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni had a telephone conversation today with Canadian Prime Minister and G7 rotating presidency, Justin Trudeau. “The conversation provided an opportunity to once again wish the Canadian G7 rotating presidency well in its work and reiterate the hope that full continuity can be ensured to the results achieved by the Italian presidency with particular reference to the issues of Africa, the Mediterranean and irregular migration,” Palazzo Chigi explained in a note.During the conversation, the Prime Minister informed the Canadian Prime Minister that since the time of the G7 Leaders’ videoconference next Feb. 24 perfectly coincides with the breakfast she offered to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed and his subsequent speech at the Italian-Emirati Business Forum, as part of the long-scheduled state visit to Italy of the President of the United Arab Emirates, it will not be possible for her to take part in person. The Italian government will be represented by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani. “The phone call also allowed for an exchange of views on the main issues of international current affairs and the latest developments in the Ukrainian dossier. In this context, the Prime Minister reiterated that the priority for Italy is the same as the rest of Europe, the Atlantic Alliance and Kiev: to do everything possible to stop the conflict and achieve peace. President Meloni also recalled how it was Western support together with Ukrainian courage and steadfastness that pre-established the conditions that make it possible to talk today about a possible agreement. Italy, together with the United States and its European and Western partners, is working for a lasting peace in Europe, which needs real and effective security guarantees for Ukraine,” the Palazzo Chigi note concluded.
