MILAN (ITALPRESS) – “Serbia respects Ukraine’s territorial integrity and international law, we have also helped Ukraine from a humanitarian point of view, but peace right now depends on the agreement between Trump and Putin and Europe must protect its interests.” Peace between Russia and Ukraine “is a European interest, because the economy is suffering” because of the sanctions. Serbia has decided not to impose them “to safeguard its economy-we have been accused of being pro-Russian,” but “we look at our national interests.” This was said by Jovan Palalic, president of the Serbia-Italy Parliamentary Friendship Group, interviewed by Claudio Brachino for the Primo Piano column of the Italpress news agency.
The Italian and Serbian governments “share good relations with President Trump’s administration, and the Hungarian government is also on this line, we can dialogue to change Europe, with a new momentum,” he recalled. In addition, “our president Vucic proposed to organize a summit between Trump and Putin in Belgrade, precisely because we have good relations with Russia and the new Trump administration.”
Relations with Italy are solid. “The Meloni government has recognized the importance of Serbia and the whole Balkan area and has focused on this region” with the goal of “being able to maintain first of all peace,” but also “good economic relations,” Palalic recalled.
A few days ago the Italy-Serbia Business Forum was held in Belgrade, an event that “practically became a tradition, it is the fourth one we have organized in Belgrade and Trieste. It was a very important event, we are very grateful to have welcomed the Vice-President of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani, together with other ministers and many Italian companies, who for us is a true friend,” as evidenced by his position “on the absence of unjust political conditions that are imposed by other countries with respect to our desire to be part of the European Union.”
In Belgrade “there are institutions that are part of Sistema Italia, such as Sace, Ice, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, Confindustria, which can support investment and work. We are very happy to be recognized as a pillar of the Italian economic presence,” Palalic explained.
In Milan, however, there was a meeting with the president of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana. “We appreciate his willingness to support and endorse our EU membership and to strengthen our economic relations. We have opened new spaces in the area of innovation, digitization and new technologies,” and at all levels of our cooperation, “everything works, we feel the will to deepen our relations.”
