ROME (ITALPRESS) – “I hope Italy will be central to peace in Ukraine. But we have 7,500 Italian soldiers engaged in peacekeeping missions around the world, spending more than a billion. Before spending an extra euro or assuming sending an extra soldier, you have to be absolutely sure of what you are doing and how you are doing it, because otherwise the example of Afghanistan is not far from our memory.” This was said by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Matteo Salvini, during a meeting with the foreign press in Rome.Responding to a journalist’s question, Salvini stressed, “I think that the choice should not be posed whether to be with Trump or with Von der Leyen, I think that with the West, we are not wrong. It would be wrong for a part of Europe if it did not want an end to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. For us Von der Leyen is economically a disgrace and we never voted for her. Trump’s push should be taken positively. If after three years a dialogue between Russia and Ukraine is assumed, the credit is not with Europe but with Trump. Then it will be up to Zelensky and Putin to consider how to conclude,” he added.
