WASHINGTON (UNITED STATES) (ITALPRESS) – US President Donald Trump has relaunched Ukraine’s request to speed up the negotiating path with Russia to reach a conclusion of the conflict, speaking with journalists at the White House before boarding the Marine One directed at Fayetteville, North Carolina. Trump said: “Russia wants to reach an agreement and Zelensky will have to make a move, otherwise it will lose a great opportunity. It has to move.” The American president reiterated that Russia would be available to treat and urged Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky to move quickly to overcome the stall. While having previously expressed impatience towards Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump stressed the need for acceleration by Kiev, claiming that time plays a decisive role in defining a possible agreement.
According to U.S. diplomatic observers, Washington would be trying to make a political breakthrough in the negotiating process, believing that a negotiation window is still viable despite the deep differences between the parties. The US administration would intensify its contacts with European allies and international mediators to encourage a more stable discussion framework, in an effort to reduce the risk of further escalation. In the same exchange with the press, the president also announced that he decided to move a second US carrier to the Middle East, explaining that the measure is part of the pressure strategy on Tehran to accept an agreement aimed at resize its nuclear program. Trump said that the deployment is an operational guarantee in case the dialogue does not produce concrete results, adding that the naval group will leave shortly.
