Ukraine, Zelensky “Russia must be forced to make peace”

ROME (ITALPRESS) – “Currently, a rescue operation is still underway in Sumy, in which all services are involved: the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, the National Police, medical services and our utilities. Casualties are numerous: so far about 90 people are known to have been injured, including 17 children. A school and some residential buildings are located at the epicenter. Fortunately, the children at the school were sheltered. I am grateful to all those who help people and all those who save the lives of Ukrainians. Every day like this, every night with Russian missiles and drones against our country, every hour of war: these are losses, this is pain, this is destruction that Ukraine never wanted.” Thus on Telegram the Ukrainian president, Voldymyr Zelensky.

“The war was brought by Russia and it is to Russia that the war must be pushed: it is they who must be forced to make peace, it is they who must be pushed to provide security. I thank all those who help us in this. I thank all those who are working for the security of Ukraine, for the protection of our people, for the protection of our cities,” he added.

“Today we held meetings focused on diplomatic efforts,” the Ukrainian leader continued on X – . I spoke with Rustem Umerov. Yesterday there was a meeting with the U.S. team. Today the U.S. representatives spoke with the war team, that is, with the representatives of Russia. After that, there was another meeting between the Ukrainian and American teams. I expect a new report soon. What we need is a movement toward real peace, toward guaranteed security. This is something we all need, in Ukraine, in Europe, in America and all over the world, all those who want stability in international relations. Russia remains the only actor dragging this war, mocking both our people and the global community. To push Russia toward peace, we need strong moves and actions.”

“We are ready to support any strong initiative that can make diplomacy more effective, and that means exerting pressure to force Russia to want to end this war. That means sanctions. That means support for Ukraine. That means international coordination. This week we are also preparing substantial work with our European partners on concrete measures on security, joint measures. A significant part of Europe is ready for concrete work on security, and that is a good thing. I thank everyone who stands with Ukraine,” Zelensky added.
