CITTADELLA (ITALPRESS) – In the last friendly before the European Championships in June, Italy Under 21 draws 1-1 against Denmark at the ‘Tombolatò in Cittadella thanks to a goal by Prati. So it ends without victories this break for Carmine Nunziata’s boys, coming back from the defeat in Venice against a Netherlands left in nine but able to mock the hosts in the recovery. A reaction was needed today to turn the page, but in Cittadella the Azzurrini also lacked the fluidity of play that had prompted Nunziata to look at the glass half full against the Oranje.
What was not missed at the ‘Tombolatò was instead a few too many ingenuities. Like the one on 21′ that led to the Danish lead after a goal was disallowed to the guests. Zanotti kicked on Prati and triggered Denmark’s restart: Jorgensen worked a ball well for Sorensen who slotted into the box and beat Desplanches. A structured reaction from Italy is not there. Nunziata’s team seemed to suffer the intensity of the Danes and the equalizer needed a eurogoal by Prati, who at 37′ after a defense rebound let off a volley from outside the box that caught Jumgdal by surprise.
At halftime Nunziata recalls Desplanches, Pisilli and Bianco. In comes Sassi, Ndour and Doumbia. More physicality in midfield, but also more international experience with the entry shortly after of Baldanzi and Fabbian in place of Pafundi and Esposito. The chance for 2-1 came from Fabbian himself, who inserted himself with the right timing after a deflected Zanotti shot, but his split touch ended outside. In the 70th minute it was also Koleosho’s time, who, at the first ball he touched, wasted a chance in one-on-one with the goalkeeper. In the recovery it is Ghilardi who hits the crossbar on the developments of a corner. It ends 1-1 at the ‘Tombolatò. Another Italy will be needed in Slovakia in June.
