CATANZARO (ITALPRESS) – The University of Calabria will confer an “honoris causa” degree in Management Engineering on Santo Versace for his extraordinary entrepreneurial career in the fashion industry and in the promotion of “Made in Italy” in the world.The ceremony, which will be presided over by Rector Nicola Leone, will take place on Monday, March 10, at 11 a.m. in the Aula Magna “Beniamino Andreatta.” Speakers will include Francesca Guerriero, director of the Department of Mechanical, Energy and Management Engineering (Dimeg), and Giuseppina Ambrogio, coordinator of the degree program in Management Engineering. The “laudatio” will be given by Luigino Filice, professor of Processing Technologies and Systems at Dimeg. Representing the business world, Francesco Cicione, president of Entopan, will bring greetings. “We are proud,” said Rector Nicola Leone, “to confer this recognition on Santo Versace, one of the symbols of Calabrian talent in the world. His extraordinary career, which started from this very land, combined with his philanthropic commitment, are an example for our young management engineers, who will be able to draw inspiration from his entrepreneurial vision and his ability to combine success and social commitment. “The honoris causa degree is, in fact, an opportunity to celebrate Versace’s extraordinary contribution to the Italian fashion industry, the result of a unique combination of entrepreneurial vision, strategy and management innovation. Thanks to Santo’s leadership and the creative genius of his brother Gianni, the “Maison Versace” has established itself as a worldwide icon of “Made in Italy.” Santo Versace’s work is also distinguished by his philanthropic activities. Through the Foundation that bears his name, he acted, in fact, in a concrete way, against social inequalities, putting in place initiatives for social inclusion in support of fragile people.The event will see the participation not only of members of the academic community of the University of Calabria, but also representatives of the industrial world and numerous local and national businesses, partners of the degree course in Management Engineering, testifying to a solid link between the university and the productive world for the development of innovative projects and business ideas
