Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Beccalli tedofora “The values of sport are the same as education”

MILAN (ITALPRESS) – “These Winter Olympics are an extraordinary event in a delicate historical moment, because they make visible values that today appear vulnerable”. With these words the director of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart Elena Beccalli told what he felt in the tedophora. “It was a unique and exciting experience, especially because it was lived together with the students of the University. It was really touching.” Sport plays, in fact, “an important role in outlining our idea of University as a place of knowledge experience. As Pope Leo XIV said, “these great sporting events constitute a strong message of brotherhood and revive hope in a world in peace.” Beccalli brought the Olimpic Flame on Friday 6 February representing the entire university community, then handing it over to a group of students and students of the University – “this is why I did all this”, commented the rector – who continued the path towards the San Siro Stadium for the lighting of the Olympic Braciere of the XXV Winter Games and to start the long-awaited opening ceremony.

Since 2019 the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart has collaborated with Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026, promoting numerous initiatives, activities and projects that reflect the spirit of the Athenaeum always attentive to enhancing disciplines and sports practices. “The Catholic University has a long academic tradition in the formation of sports professionals, begun in 1964 with the establishment of the Isef, today a degree in motor sciences and sports, with a three-year degree in “motor sciences and sport” and the master in “Sciences and techniques of well-being and sport”. Over time, master, summer school, continuing training and a PhD were added. Without forgetting the path of Dual Career, created – in 2018, among the first Universities in Italy – to support the dual career of high-level athletes who choose to continue to study,” said rector Elena Beccalli. “I think sport shares the same values of education: respect, commitment, inclusion, enhancement of talent. These are the values that we educators are called to promote and that we cultivate every day in our university. A space to foster dialogue between people, peoples and cultures. A space to educate the complexity and universal respect of rights, providing the necessary tools to intrepreate reality, even the seemingly farther. A space to educate commitment and to train people capable of experiencing challenges by transforming fragility into resources. A space where you learn the value of teamwork.”.
